CPG marketing agency: nine to shortlist, and which one your brand actually needs

Sammy Tran

A CPG marketing agency grows a consumer packaged goods brand in four arenas: retail and marketplaces, paid digital, brand and packaging, and the owned channels (email, SMS, subscriptions) that drive reorders. Most food, beverage and household brands need one arena fixed before the others pay off. Below are nine agencies, each described from its own site, grouped by arena.

Which arena does your CPG brand need first?

CPG brands carry two businesses at once: a retail business that wins trial on the shelf or on Amazon, and a direct business that keeps the customers who tried it. The agencies that are excellent at one are rarely built for the other, which is why the agency list matters less than the arena you hire for.

Why CPG lives on the reorder

A packaged good is bought to be used up. A can of water, a tin of formula, a bar of soap and a box of soup all run out on a cycle you can predict, and the brand that reaches the customer just before that moment keeps the order. The brand that does not hands it to whatever is on the shelf that week.

That is why the owned channels earn their place in a CPG plan even when most volume ships through retail. Klaviyo's 2026 benchmarks put the food and beverage placed order rate at 1.16% for campaigns and 1.79% for automated flows, and across industries flows produce nearly 41% of email revenue from 5.3% of sends. Bain's Frederick Reichheld found that a 5% increase in customer retention produces more than a 25% increase in profit; in a category where the product is designed to be repurchased, the reorder is the profit.

Retail makes the reorder harder to see. A shopper who buys your drink at a grocery store and then again on your site looks like two strangers unless the second purchase can be tied to the first, which is why capturing the retail buyer, covered below, matters as much as the flows themselves.

Owned channels and DTC

1. BMO Media: replenishment, subscriptions and the flows that keep the reorder

BMO Media is a lifecycle marketing agency for DTC brands and a Klaviyo partner. For CPG brands we build the replenishment, subscription, welcome and win-back flows that turn one order into a cycle, and we run SMS and subscriptions alongside them so every reorder prompt lands once, in the right channel.

Three CPG programs show the range. For Liquid Death, the beverage brand, we found more than 110,000 prospects sitting in the email list unconverted. Using Klaviyo flows for replenishment, welcome, subscription and upsell, the program grew automation revenue 10 times, list size 5 times and overall email revenue 4 times in 12 months, and converted 15% of non-buyer profiles into customers in the first three months. For Formuland, which sells specialty baby formula, educational campaigns on goat milk and sensitive formulas drove conversions and automated flow revenue rose more than 50% quarter over quarter. For Spoonful of Comfort, a food gifting brand, email and SMS grew BFCM revenue 196.9% year over year and produced 46.1% of total BFCM revenue.

If subscriptions are part of your model, our subscription retention agency runs the onboarding, failed payment and cancel flows; the email program runs through our ecommerce email marketing agency, and texts through our SMS marketing agency.

2. Barrel

Barrel describes itself as a CPG commerce agency and Shopify Platinum Partner that designs, launches, migrates and grows Shopify sites connected to email, SMS, SEO and generative search, marketplaces and retail. The fit is CPG brands that need the store rebuilt and the owned channels connected in the same project.

Retail and marketplaces

3. Acadia

Acadia's CPG practice grows brands on Amazon, Kroger and Walmart and describes itself as an early adopter of Kroger Precision Marketing for driving trial and repeat purchase. Hire it when retail media and marketplace velocity are the constraint.

Full-service digital and social

4. Power Digital

Power Digital runs a dedicated CPG vertical, with paid media, SEO, social, influencer and email work referenced on the page. The fit is a brand that wants one large partner across paid and organic channels.

5. 5W

5W's CPG digital practice helps consumer packaged goods brands build visibility across search, social media and AI platforms. Its PR roots suit launches that need earned media and search visibility together.

6. UMAI Marketing

UMAI describes itself as a boutique, Austin-based agency giving consumer goods founders and marketers the tools to grow social media, social ads, email marketing and influencer programs, with food and beverage brands among its clients. The fit is an emerging CPG brand that needs social and creator reach first.

Brand, creative and packaging

7. The Brandon Agency

The Brandon Agency's CPG team covers work from package design to social media campaigns. The fit is a brand where the pack and the brand story are the first problem to solve.

8. quench

quench is a food and beverage marketing, branding and advertising agency whose work spans CPG, snack foods, spirits and craft beer. A fit for food and beverage brands buying brand and campaign work.

9. Crew Marketing Partners

Crew Marketing Partners describes itself as an award-winning food and beverage creative marketing agency built on strategy, creativity and human insight. The fit is creative-led food and beverage brands.

If you searched for a food and beverage marketing agency

The same split applies to food and beverage specialists: quench and Crew on the creative side, Acadia on retail, UMAI on social and creators, and the owned-channel specialists on the reorder. The grocery shelf wins the first purchase; the inbox and the phone win the ones after it.

How retail trial becomes a direct relationship

The CPG brands that build a profitable DTC channel rarely do it by outspending their retail media. They do it by capturing the retail buyer: a QR code on the pack that offers a recipe, a usage guide or a reorder discount; an insert in the case; a sweepstakes entry that asks for an email and phone number. Every one of those turns an anonymous shelf purchase into a profile the welcome flow can work.

From there the program is the same one that works for a pure DTC brand. A welcome series that teaches how to use the product. A replenishment flow timed to the pack size. A subscribe-and-save offer after the second order, not the first. A win-back that fires when the cycle is missed. Our replenishment email flow guide covers the timing, and our failed payment recovery guide covers the subscription revenue most CPG brands lose without noticing.

What the first 90 days of an owned-channel program look like

Month one is capture and audit. The agency should read every flow, campaign and signup point, check that the store and the email platform agree on orders and products, and put a capture mechanism on the pack or in the case so retail buyers can join the list. Month two is the reorder engine: a welcome series that teaches usage, replenishment flows timed to each pack size, and a subscribe-and-save offer for customers on their second order. Month three is recovery and reporting: win-back for missed cycles, failed payment recovery for subscribers, and a report that shows repeat purchase rate and revenue per recipient by flow, not just total attributed revenue.

By the end of the quarter you should be able to answer three questions: how many retail buyers joined the list, what share of first-time buyers placed a second order inside one cycle, and what each flow earns per recipient. If an agency cannot tell you how it will answer those, it is selling activity rather than a program.

What CPG marketing agencies cost

None of the nine publish a rate card. Brand and packaging agencies typically quote by project; retail media and digital agencies by retainer plus media; owned-channel agencies by monthly retainer sized to the flows, campaigns and channels in scope. Platform costs, Klaviyo, Recharge or Skio, Attentive or Postscript, sit on your account. The comparison that matters is what each agency will commit to proving: retail velocity, cost per new customer, or repeat purchase rate and subscription churn by cohort.

Five questions to ask before you sign

  • How will you capture the retail buyer? An owned-channel plan for a CPG brand that ignores the shelf ignores most of the customers.

  • What is the reorder cycle for each SKU, and where does it live in the flows? Replenishment timing by pack size is the core of the program.

  • When do you offer a subscription? After the product has proven itself, usually after the second order, converts better than at first checkout.

  • Who owns the accounts and the data? Klaviyo, the subscription platform and the SMS platform should be in your name.

  • What will you report? Attributed revenue, yes, and also repeat purchase rate, subscription churn by cohort and revenue per recipient by flow.

Frequently asked questions

What does a CPG marketing agency do?

It grows a consumer packaged goods brand in one or more arenas: retail and marketplace velocity, paid and organic digital, brand and packaging, or the owned channels (email, SMS, subscriptions) that drive reorders. Hire for the arena that is constraining growth now.

Is a food and beverage marketing agency different from a CPG agency?

Food and beverage agencies are CPG agencies that specialize in one category, usually on the brand and creative side. The same arena split applies: creative, retail, digital or owned channels. Choose by the job, then check category experience.

Should a CPG brand sold mainly in retail invest in DTC email and SMS?

Yes, if it can capture retail buyers with on-pack offers and inserts. The owned list becomes the cheapest route to the reorder, a testing ground for new SKUs and the audience for subscriptions.

Are your buyers reordering from you or from the shelf?
